Happy Last Week

THE LAST WEEK OF SCHOOL!!!!

Morning Meeting....
Counting to our next 10's cloud. We have been in school 170 days and we can count to 170! By 10's too! Then we did our morning chart activity.  The activity was to find a book with the word "is" in it. Trickier than they thought it would be to find books. We then went around in circle and all the kids read a sentence from the book they found that had the word "is." Great job kids!!!!!!
We also went around the room and shared "What's the News!"

Rock, Paper, Scissors, Shoe! We played this as part of our morning greetings. You change partners after each time you play.

Finger flashes! Always good practice. I love how far these kids have come since the beginning of the year!

Book Corner....
Come Back Amelia Bedelia by Peggy Parish.  "Amelia Bedelia must look for a new job -- Mrs. Rogers has finally had enough. But for poor Amelia Bedelia, each new job is a bigger mess than the last. Can she ever find a place to belong?"

Green Eggs and Ham by Dr Seuss. A classic! Sam-I-Am tries to persuade his friends to eat green eggs and ham.

Big Pig On A Dig by Phil Roxbee-Cox  "Big pig finds a treasure map and decides to dig for gold at the spot marked with an "X" on the map. A little yellow duck may be found on each page. "

Toad Makes A Road by Pill Roxbee-Cox. "When the truck driver cannot reach Toad's new house at the top of the hill to deliver her things, Toad decides to put in an access road so she will not have such a problem again."

Goose on the Loose by Pill Roxbee-Cox. "Created in consultation with a language expert, this entertaining phonics reader is specially written to help children learn to read."

What Teachers Can't Do by Douglas Wood. "There are lots of things that regular people can do, but teachers can't. Teachers can't ride a bike or scooter to school. And they can never be tardy. Teachers can't buy their own apples. And they can't teach their best without flowers on their desk. But first they really need some help cleaning the blackboard. And the erasers! It's a wonder they come back to school at all!"

Math....
We continue to keep in routine and master our counting skills. We have had some cut and paste numbers in the correct order and we also help grow the caterpillar

ECHO Science Center Field Trip....
Thank you parents who came on the field trip with us. I hope you all had fun. We sure did! Here are a few pictures I was able to capture. Sorry I didn't get more, couldn't be with all the groups.

Thanks for sharing your child with us. We had a wonderful year with this class. Looking forward to seeing them at recess or lunch or in passing through the halls. Have a fabulous summer!!!

Field Trip Wednesday

REMINDER....Field trip is coming up! If you haven't sent in $6.50 for your child please do so. We are headed to the ECHO Science Center on Wednesday!!! Don't forget to send in a bagged lunch and water bottle with your child.

Morning Meeting....
Counting as usual. Although now we are noticing how many days are left to school year. Doing different greetings we haven't done in a while. Like the "Shoe Greeting." One shoe from each person goes in the middle and then someone starts by picking up any shoe and matching to the owner. Then shake hands while saying good morning. Then the person who received their shoe, goes to pick a new one out of the middle and we continue until all shoes are gone back their owner.

Math...
Matching an equation with the correct answer. Everyone was given a card with either an equation such as 4 + 5 = and there were cards with just a answer like 9.  Everyone went around the room looking for their match, sat down and we went around the circle saying the equation and answer together. We have done lots with number flashes and writing our numbers on the white board. We did a new activity where Beth holds up a 10's rod and any given number of 1's cubes. The kids have to decide what the number is that she was holding up and write their answer on the board.

Book Corner....
Six Foolish Fishermen by Benjamin Elkin. "How foolish could six Cajuns on the bayou possibly be? Down in Louisiana bayou country, six friends--Jules, Jacques, Jean, Ti-Paul, Philippe, and Pierre-love to go out fishing on their pirogues. But these fellows are very foolish indeed. Jamberry  by Bruce Degan. "They're off... a boy and an endearing, rhyme-spouting bear, who squires him through a fantastic world of berries. And their adventure comes to a razzamatazz finale under a starberry sky."

Chester the Worldly Pig by Bill Peet.  "Chester longs to be a performer in the circus, but the road to stardom is rocky until someone discovers Chester's true "worldliness." "Chester is going to be a laugh-aloud choice."

Nora read to us today a book that she brought in called Cat Traps by Molly Coxe. "Cat wants a snack.  Cat sets a trap.  Cat gets...in trouble!  Simple sentences and snappy illustrations make this a purr-fect first step into the joy of reading."

Narumi has been practicing her reading out lout. She read Counting Bats. An easy reader for kids

 developing the confidence of reading. Repetition and counting numbers makes this a great starter book.

Thayer also has been working on her reading and found a book that she wanted to read aloud. She read Stripes, Right?

A Kiss For Little Bear by Else Holmelund Minarik. "Grandmother likes Little Bear's picture so much she sends him a thank you kiss. "Will you take it to him, Hen?" she says. Hen passes the kiss to Frog who passes it to Cat who passes it to Little Skunk until Hen decides there is too much kissing -- and finally gives the kiss to the Little Bear."

Arthur's Birthday by Marc Brown. "Arthur can't wait to hand out his birthday party invitations. But it turns out Muffy is having "her "party on the exact same day All of his friends are split between the two parties so Arthur and Francine hatch a clever scheme to make sure Arthur "and" Muffy have the best birthdays yet."

So much reading every day, it is hard to capture all the books we do in a given week. Keep on reading at home. It sure does help your child learn to read!

Step up day

It's summer time! 

Well, it is certainly is feeling as such. With that said, please send your child into school with a water bottle. We have a fountain inside our room, however, it doesn't work very well, so kids have to leave our room and go to the hall. Lots of kids leaving for drinks these days. So if you could kindly send in a water bottle for your child, that would be very much appreciated. 

STEP UP DAY!!!!

We had our step up day to first grade today. Kindergarten went to Whitney's class. They liked the "cow greeting" that they did. They read a story called The Perfect Nest. They also said that they will be getting homework too! They learned that they get to bring things or do things during the day that is special. They might pop a balloon and inside it tells what they get to do like; where a hat, chew gum, bring in a pet, etc. 


Morning Meeting.....
Repetition has good results! So with that said, we counted again. 😊 Practicing by 10's and 1's.  We read our chart as a group.
Good morning web! We passed a string around the circle to a different friend. Then we had to figure out how to unwind our web. Wherever our part connected to a friend is where our new spots were in the circle.

Book Corner.....
Farmer Joe's Hot Day by Nancy Wilcox Richards. "As Farmer Joe works, he gets hotter and hotter and angrier and angrier! His wife gives him some very strange and funny advice."

Dear Garbage Man by Gene Zion. "It's Stan's first day being a garbage man, and he wants to do a good job. But everything seems too good to put into the sanitation truck's smasher. Instead of throwing these things away, he gives them away! "

Count the Monkeys  by Mac Barnett. "Kids will giggle as they count all the animals that have frightened the monkeys off the pages. Full of fun reader interactions and keeps readers guessing until the very last page!"

Why Mosquitoes Buss In People's Ears by, Verna Aardema "Why Mosquitoes Buzz in People's Ears: A West African Tale is a 1975 picture book by Verna Aardema and illustrated by Leo and Diane Dillon told in the form of a cumulative tale written for young children, which tells an African legend."

Outside Time.....

Playing music with Else's harmonica and singing songs.

Nature/insect hotel! Worms and ants and beetles were collected for this hotel. 

I think I won't be going to this hotel anytime soon!
