Eli brought in his Hex-bug. Do you know what a Hex-bug is?

Connie was in the dark about this toy, so Eli showed us how it worked.

Thanks Eli, I am now informed about yet another bug!

Willis talked about a conversation he had with his grandmother about a squirrel that can be bigger than his cat. Wonder what kind of squirrel it could be?

Savi shared a special rock that was smooth and shinny.

Morning Meeting......

Today when the kids came into class they had to write their name on a sticky note at the chart. We played a new game where the sticky notes became "balls of hail." The balls of hail were thrown in the air and once they landed, each kid picked a ball of hail, read the name on the sticky note hail, then went to that kid and said "Good morning."

Bodhi - Showed us her special music toy that she got when she went for a chinese dinner. 

Fiona - Shared about her special bracelets she got for her birthday.

Earl - Showed us how he learned how to braid some string together at after school.

Free choice.....

Language Arts..... We continue to work on learning our digraphs. We say the name of the digraph, the picture clue and the sound the digraph makes. We are also practicing our lines for our Readers Theater play. Today one of our groups had the chance to present to Elizabeth's 5th and 6th grade class today. What a great job they did, performing in front of the big kids. Nice job!

Math.....   In math we are working on writing the teen numbers.  We counted ducks and fish and wrote the numbers to match the amount.  We have also been practicing counting backwards from 20 to 0!

West brought in a bear claw and a small note book. The claw was very cool!

 

McCartney shared her disco ball with the class. Later we had a dance party!

Grady brought in a nest.

  

Remember last week, Beth brought in tadpoles. A week has passed and they certainly have grown. We have been feeding them lettuce and spinach.










We could really use some snacks again if any are so inclined to bring some in. Apples, clementines, pretzels, crackers, cheerios, nut free bars, goldfish, fruit snacks, etc, etc. Thanks for your help.

Hand bones

Today Deirdre came in to talk to us about poisons everywhere, in the school, in our houses, etc. A couple kids came up with some poisonous things in the house.

Deirdre showed us a  poster about medicines that look like candy. Its important to remember that medicine is not candy and needs to be taken when a parent is there to tell you its ok.

We played a little game called, Quills up Quills down....

Deirdre showed us many items and as a group we decided if it was ok or not ok. Quill the Porcupine helped us out.

Deidre showed us two glasses of what looked like water. She did an experiment to show us with food coloring and baking soda. What do you do if you see a glass of water that maybe has been sitting around? Is it water or poison?  The experiment showed that sometimes we don't know what it is that we are going to drink or eat. It is important to ask an adult before ingesting it!

In Science today we continued learning about bones. Today we discussed what the function of a bone is. How bones protect the body. And what bones do to help you move. We then followed up with assembling our own hand bones.

Special guests..........

It was a busy day in Kindergarten today. We had two special guests! 

Our first guest was Yuko, our amazing lunch lady. She was our Royal Reader and read us a couple of her favorite books. One was even in Japanese! Very cool. Thank you Yuko!

Our second guest was Brendan Gaylord, who showed off his firefighting gear. Brendan is a volunteer firefighter for the Warren Fire Department and Beth's son! He was here today to bring awareness to the kids about what a firefighter looks like and sounds like with all the gear on. Brendan had many questions to answer such as:

Q: How much water fits into the tanks on the Fire Truck?

A: 10,000 gallons.

Sharing today......

Max talked about pigeons that his grandparents have and the pigeons had babies a couple days ago.


In Language Arts we have been learning about digraphs; ch, sh, th, wh and ck. We have been saying the letter combo, the picture clue and the sounds that they make. We have also practiced finding words with the digraphs in them. We are also working hard to learn our play lines. Very fun when you start to get your lines and can add emphasis and emotions.

In Math we have been practicing recognizing dots on a grid.  We can instantly recognize up to ten dots by knowing that each row holds five dots.  If the first row is full and the second row has 3 dots we know that it is 5+3 which is 8 dots.  We have also been building teen numbers on a grid.  Today we used two colors to show teen numbers.  For the number 15 we colored ten squares one color and five more another color to show that 10+5 is 15.
