Pumpkin Bread Making

 We made delicious pumpkin bread today! We all split up into small groups, and carefully followed directions of the recipie. Each group had a buddy from the 3rd and 4th grade class. Thank you to the volunteers who came in to helped us.

 

We had a little word work session. Everyone made words that Beth called out. We are becoming such good writers.

Free choice turned into a village in our classroom today! Lots of imagination going on, it's really great to see. Below is some of the chatter that I caught pieces of.

"We made a princess castle. With a bridge and water. And a door." Molly and Eva

Bodhi added... "This is the animal rescue truck."

Bodhi "taking care of the horse barn." 

Earl "This is a farm where the animals are safe. There is the heater that will warm up the animals in the winter." 

"I made a building with a door and some trucks." Ryder

"Its for dogs. A canon that shoots a tennis ball out for dogs to chase and get. I was just thinking about that."

Pumpkin Bread Helpers Still Needed...

WE STILL NEED A COUPLE OF HELPERS TOMORROW FROM 1:15pm - 1:45pm, TO MAKE PUMPKIN BREAD FOR HARVEST DINNER. 

WE ALSO NEED MORE MEASURING CUPS AND MEASURING SPOONS.                                      

Buddies are so much fun!! We had some time today to work with our buddies to make some art work for the Harvest Dinner on Thursday evening. Thank you Heidi Hill and all the 3rd and 4th graders for helping us and playing outside during recess. Great friendships are being made!

We read Arthur's Thanksgiving by, Marc Brown. Then imaginations went wild....

REMINDER...... If you haven't sent in your ingredient or tools we asked for to help make our pumpkin bread, please send it in. We are making bread Wednesday that we will provide at the Harvest Dinner.

In Language Arts we are activating background knowledge and making connections.
Students are learning how to activate their background knowledge to better understand what they are about to read. We will be making text to text connections, text to self and text to world connections. We asked the kids to think about what they know a lot about. Here is what they came up with, "I know a lot about..."

We will also be starting Royal reader! A Royal Reader is someone in our community who wants to share their love of reading. The goal is to show our kindergarteners that reading is a life long endeavor that brings us together sharing stories. I'm going to start with inviting school Community members and then extended it out to parents. I'll send home a sign up and                   time slots of when we need a community member, if interested.

REMINDER.... We need a parent volunteer to coordinate a basket for the Harvest Dinner, basket raffle. Each class is to put together a basket. Please let us know if you can do this. This is a parent responsibility, teachers do not have time for this. Please refer to the bulletin or ask us for more information. Thank you.

Language Arts had a twist from our regular schedule. We had three different work stations today that we took turns exploring. We had a puzzle station, an Eric Carle book station with a couple activities of retelling and sequencing. As well as a word work station.

We read the book Iggy Peck, Architect, by Andrea Beaty. It was a great intro to our science activity. We had the great challenge of being Engineers and making our own paint brush. We all drew what we thought would be a great paint brush to invent. Then we had time to make our own and try it out.

Did you know...

"DID YOU KNOW....." was our morning greeting today about Bats! We went around in circle and each one of us said, "Did you know that bats..." and we finished that with a fact that we have learned.

Did you know that bats are nocturnal?       

 Did you know that bats eat mosquito's? 

Did you know that bats live in caves?       

Did you know that bats use echolocation to find things?

In math, we played number bingo. Beth called out a number, kids had to locate on their bingo card the number she called out, as well as showed them the number card she called out.

We also worked on what is, "one less."  What is one less than 5? What is one less than 3?

Today we talked about things Engineers make and what is made by nature. We had a worksheet that we did, circling the objects that were people made. We also went around the room and kids said one thing that came to mind that was made by a person.

Today was an indoor recess kinda day! We had fun activities to do in the gym with the kids. One of them was an egg and spoon race. They seemed to have lots of fun! Along with many other activities.

Happy November

Happy November to you all!  

Language Arts we continue with our letter formation and letter recognition. We are also writing words using letters we have learned, which is almost all of them. Words like, "pop," "mop," "hop," "bat," "hat," "cat". This month we are also going to be working on our reading skills. Learning to follow words with our finger is one example of encouraging good reading strategies. 

Math we have continue to practice with "one more". We played the finger flash game. We counted x's and o's and drew one more,  and then told what one more was without having to count again. 

Free choice time. "Making ships."

We read the book Four Scary Stories by Tony Johnston, pictures by Tomie de Paola. After this story we talked about what an author does and what an illustrator does and that we are learning how to be authors and illustrators.

REMINDERS...

Please do not send in candy with your kids for snack or lunch. Candy is not allowed in school. Thank you for understanding. 

Harvest Dinner is next Thursday, November 10th at 5pm. We hope you can make it!  ALSO, we need a "themed basket" for the fundraiser that happens at the harvest dinner, provided by the Kindergarten class.  A parent is responsible to coordinate this. It was in a recent bulletin, but feel free to come to us and get advice.  Who can be the basket coordinator??
