Morning Meeting....

We're All Wonder's by R.J. Palacio.  It about a boy, Auggie, with Treacher Collins syndrome, a facial condition, and tells the story of his first year in middle school.

 

What is kindness? 

Nora "Having to be nice to people."

Ethan "Be nice."
Lenora "To say kind stuff."

Jack "Even though people are different you say kind things to them."

Ashlyn "So, if you have a friend that gives up on you you could just say could you be my friend. You could be a cake for someone."

River "You can do kind stuff."

Luca "If someone gives you a toy you should say thank you."

Zoe "If you don't be nice to a person they might not be nice to us."

Willow "If you see a new friend you say hi."

Beth "What if I hold the door for someone is that kind?"

All "YES!"

Beth "What if you give someone a purple marker that I were using? Is that kind?"

All "Yes!"

Beth "What if someone spilled something and you helped pick it up, is that kind?"

All "Yes!"

We now have a kindness jar in the class. If anyone sees someone doing something kind you can earn a cube in the jar. When we fill the jar as a class we are going to have a kindness party. 

Math....

Popsicle sticks. Everyone had 10 Popsicle sticks and had to make a shape out of three sticks. What kind of shape could you make with three sticks? Baden "a triangle." How many sides does your triangle have? Stella "Three." The next challenge is to use 6 Popsicle sticks and make a triangle. Can you make a triangle using 6 sticks? Skyler used 6 sticks and said his triangle still has 3 sides! Even though we used 6 sticks the triangle still has 3 sides. Can you make a triangle with 9 sticks? How many sides does a triangle always have??? Narumi "3." Triangles no matter what size will always have three sides. 

Next challenge...make a shape! Any shape you can make. But remember don't let your animals escape. (If there is an opening that is not a shape.) 

Language Arts....

Writing words! It's pretty incredible how far these kids have come in just 4 months time and how much they really enjoy writing words. Today we wrote on our white boards. Some words we made were: sip, lip, dog. We even wrote 4 letter words: brag,

We will be going on a field trip to Fayston School for a presentation on the very popular book and movie Wonder. All this info is in the Bulletin you received this week. Please see the bulletin for more details. We will be going to Fayston for the the 10-10:40 time slot on Monday December 4th.
