We reviewed our chart and all the patterns that we completed this morning. We checked out the calendar, noticed the new month, October. We read the days of the week and we read "yesterday was Sunday." "Today is Monday." Tomorrow will be Tuesday."

Beth read a book called One is A Snail Ten is A Crab by April and Jeff Sayre.
This book is all about counting. "If one is a snail, and two is a person......we must be counting by feet Children will love this hilariously illustrated introduction to simple counting and multiplication. Follow the sign to the beach for some mathematical mayhem."

MATH....
We started off doing some "flash dots". Beth held up papers with dots on them, kids had to quickly say how many were on each page without getting tricked. We are really getting stronger each time we do these. Then we played a game called Monster Munch. We worked with a partner and a number line and two monsters!  The Monsters moved up or down the number line to help our partner guess what number we were thinking of, like twenty questions.  It's a tricky game but the kids picked it up quickly!

FOUR WINDS....
In Four Winds today we learned about the sun and the earth and how the movement of the earth makes day and night.  Then we went outside and traced our shadows and checked on our shadows several times throughout the day to see how our shadows changed.  We also got to play with flashlights to make shadows in our classroom.  It was lots of fun!  Thank you to Nora's mom, Rachel and Sedsel's mom, Stacy, for being our Four Winds teachers!
Puppet show performance about light and shadows.

Finding shadows.

Partnered up and tracing shadows.

Then we came back inside and learned more with shadows by using a flashlight (acting as our sun) and little people. Making the light shine in different places around the little people. We could make the shadow bigger and smaller and in different parts of the paper.

We went back out to see if our shadows changed, and in fact they did! Our shadows got smaller and moved to the side. The Earth's rotation around the sun is pretty incredible.

We went back out again about 3.5 hours later to see if there were any changes again. We found HUGE changes.  Our shadows moved a lot! It was great to see the changes. We even predicted where our shadows would be if we came back at dinner time, and bed time, and when we are sleeping. Feel free to ask your child about what they learned about shadows.
