Meditation

SKI/RIDE FRIDAY....
Tomorrow is the last Ski/Ride Friday for this year. A BIG THANK YOU to the PTO for putting this on for us. We have had a great time!

MATH....
This week in math we talked about 10 plus ____ more! So if there is 10 plus 3 more that is 13. We used money to show 10 (cents) plus 3 (pennies) more is 13! We played games. We did math stations too with unifix cubes, shapes, etc.

Special Guest....
We had Sheryl Platt in with us this week and she did some "Mindful Meditation" with us. She read a couple books and lead us in a whole class meditation activity. It was a great time and all kids really enjoyed it. Ask your kiddo, they might be able to teach you a technique that was used to help the body calm down and relax.

We did a writing activity following the meditation and before the kids all went off to write about their experience, this is how they summed up the activity. The writing pieces were awesome. And the drawings that went along with them were pretty darn cute.

MATH....
Stations, stations, stations!!
Caterpillar game
Spin and Count shape game
New this week, Cylinder, Cubes and Cones game. It's a quick game!  Making math sentences with every spin you take.

Everyone took turns doing the math pages in our books.

Matching tens frames cards with partners....
How do you know what number you have?
Waverly and Gabe... We know there is 10 and 6 more.
Syzer and Sierra .... I knew because there were 3 boxes empty. I saw one row of 17 and the other row of 7.
Evelyn and Dalton... Because there is 10 and 4 plus 4 is 18. And because we counted.
Griffin and JJ..... We counted.
Davern and Hailey..... Because we counted by 10's.

Book Corner....
The Greedy Python by Richard Buckley. "A greedy python gulps down every animal he meets, which does not make him very popular. One day he grabs hold of a long slender tail, and the results are a big surprise."

Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You See? by Eric Carle. "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? is a children's picture book published in 1967. Written and illustrated by Bill Martin, Jr. and Eric Carle, the book is designed to help toddlers associate colors and meanings to objects."

What Leprechauns Do by Eve Bunting. "The three leprechauns Ari, Boo and Col have a job to do. They must race to where they've buried the pot of gold and dig it up before the rainbow comes."

We've read many Eric Carle books. We've been learning about the author's of books write more than one book. There are patterns to books sometimes too.

Language Arts....
Letter review. We each had a turn to be the teacher! Each of us had a letter to show and "teach" the group.  We all repeat.

Casts

It's been a busy week here in Kindergarten. Here is our week in review....

MATH
Shape review....with a partner you have to give a clue about the shape. "My shape has 4 sides." or "My shape is blue." Clues are given until the kids guess which shape it is their partner has in their hand.

We have been working on patterns again. This time with 8 triangles making a pattern.

More shapes....this time free building.

 Sorting shapes.....

SCIENCE
We continue to learn about the Human Body, function and structure. This week we got to make casts! We were Doctors and patients. Each of us had a turn making a cast on our partner as if we broke our wrist. The cast had to be comfortable, waterproof, supportive. They all had many supplies to choose from to make the cast. They all had a fabulous time being Doctors.
