Seeds have emerged!

Can you see the plants have emerged from the soil?! In just a couple days of planting we have germination! Super exciting.

Health class with Deirdre...today we  learned about the 5 food groups that take care of your body:
1- Fruits   2- Vegetables  3- Protein  4- Grains  5- Dairy
We learned about the many benefits of what these food groups can do for your body.

We all had a food item that we had to put in the correct category.

We had some special moves for understanding what each group does for us.  ie; Fruits, provide excellent source of vitamins to help fight sickness. We had to "punch out sickness"
Veggies, are great source of vitamins and minerals. We "jumped for joy!"

Make good healthy choices and remember what the food groups do for your body!

Many great ideas like, "How to grow a Sunflower" by West, "How to feed a dog" by Eva "How to climb a tree" by Dahlia, etc. This will be a work in progress for a few weeks. It will be fun to see the many steps come to fruition.

How does your garden grow?

Beth started us off by sharing about her drive into school and seeing a moose this morning. How very exciting! This opened up some conversation from other kids about moose and deer, etc.

Bodhi - shared with us her imaginary dragon's egg. She found it on the playground.

Fiona - Shared with us her special coral and a beautiful box that she got while she was on vacation.

Earl - shared that he and his mom made a wooden box with a lock on it that has his special things in it.

HOW DOES YOUR GARDEN GROW?????

With silver bells and cockle shells........ ah, not in Kindergarden!  Our garden grows with great soil, lots of little hands, some mesclun seeds, sprays of water, and lots of Kindergarden love! That's how our garden is off to start this season.

Each of the kids had a chance to fill the containers with soil, plant some seeds and water. Now to patiently wait for the seeds to germinate and lettuce to grow.

Don't forget if you can spare some snacks we are in need. Or please send your child in with plenty of snack to have in the morning and in the afternoon if they wish.

Welcome back from Spring break

Welcome back all! Great to see all of the kids again. We hope you all had a wonderful Spring break.

We started our day with activities at the tables and reuniting after a week of not being together. At morning meeting we had "What's the news?" We each went around and shared a quick thought about anything we wanted. Here is what was said....

Grady - "I Had a sleep over with Bodhi."
Kam - "I went shopping and bought this toy car."
Earl - "I went to Niagra Falls."
Willis - "I had a fun egg hunt at my grandmothers."
McCartney - "I celebrated my brothers birthday."
Fiona - "I went to Boston and saw my dad."
Dahlia - "I went to N.J. and found cool things including a fossil.
Bodhi - "It was kinda sad, but for Easter, I didn't get to celebrate it because my dad slept through his alarm and he doesn't really believe in it."
Ethan - "Me and my family went to my grandma's house."
Eva - "I went to my grandma's and got to watch my grandma's dog."
Molly - "I went to the water falls and they were running like crazy."
Mazie - "We found a leach in the pond and killed it and found blood in it."
Eli - I went to NYC and saw "School of Rock."
Max - "I went to Martha's Vineyard like Beth. I went to my great grammies house. I went to play grounds. My favorite one was the squishy ground one."
West - "I went to a water park and went down a water slide."
Ryder - "I had alergy tests and I got a toy. I went to another doctor. And I went to two toy stores. I didn't get anything at the first one, but I got a sound wave at the second store."

Sharing things we love....

Dahlia shared her very special arrow heads.

McCartney shared her toy horse that "changes color with warm water or body heat."

Grady - Shared his dinosaur. "I got it at a place where my dad got his windshield gets fixed."

In Language Arts we had a little Student Teacher time. Each student had a letter at his/her spot and had to share with the rest of the kids that the "letter, picture clue and sound." We then partnered up and each partner had a consonant, vowel, consonant word that was mixed up. They had to figure out the word and tap out their word, then write their word on the board. Words like "tip/pit" were made. "rat", etc. We then moved to small groups and worked on mystery bags and reading folders.

In math we made number sentences and pictures to match our number sentences.  Then we read some number stories and made pictures and number sentences to match the stories, like Riley had 5 crayons and her mom gave her 4 more.  5+4=9.

Nothing like coming in from recess for a little rest time and a story.

We are in need of snacks again. If you are able to send in some extra snacks for the kids, we really appreciate it. Or feel free to send in more snacks for your child.

It is certainly warmer, but lets not forget, without the boots our feet might get wet! Please make sure kids still have appropriate clothing for the days ahead. Boots for the muddy/drizzly days, layers just incase that wind is cold, extra clothes because your child had so much fun at recess that s/he fell in some mud.

Galls

Morning greeting..... colorful easter eggs with a classmates name in it. Open it up and you have to go greet that person. Kids loved opening their egg and figuring out who they would shake hands with and say "good morning" too.

Free choice imaginations going wild!!!

Language Arts.... We read a new Mo Willems book called That is NOT a Good Idea

We made predictions about what the book might be about...
Kam - "They are going to marry each other and chicks aren't going to like it."
Ryder - "I think the fox is going to eat the duck."
Molly - "I think he's gonna put her in the pot."

What is the same or different about the Mo Willems books?
Savi - "It doesn't have the pigeon in it."
Mazie and McCartney - "The author had the characters talk to us. They even look at us."
Molly and Kam - "They made us laugh."
Ryder and Fiona - "they all have problems in the book and they have chicks in the book too."
Eli and Earl - "The pigeon always talks to the audience."
Azza & Dahlia - "There is a lot of connections in all the books."

Dance class with Karen is progressing well!

Four Winds was lots of fun... we learned a lot about Galls, those balls you find on Golden Rod.
Thank you Kathleen and Ellen for presenting to us.

We discovered lots of larva in the galls which hatch in May usually. We discovered how they live and make tunnels, etc.
