Winter Carnival!!!!

 .....OH MY!!!!

Thank you to the 5th and 6th graders for putting this on.
We had soooooooo much fun!

We also had a mini lesson about Penguins. We read Penguins, Penguins Everywhere!  by Bob Barner. Do you know why penguins look the way they do? What they eat? How they move? Ask your child. They learned a little about these very cool creatures. We also made a little penguin ornament that your child got to bring home too.

Weighing objects with pennies!

We are continuing to learn about weight and comparing heavier and lighter objects.  Today we measured objects using our balances and pennies!  How many pennies does a marker weigh, how many pennies does a block weigh?

Our BUDDIES came to visit today! Thanks Heidi Hill's class for coming down to read with us and have fun with crafts.

Snip, Snip...Snow

And the Royal Reader is...... ANI!!!! Thank you Ani for reading us the awesome book Snip, Snip...Snow by Nancy Poydar.
We also had the fun of making our own snowflakes and used our snips to make snowmen!  Maybe with all the snowflakes, it will snow more for us to go out an make real snowmen.
Making snowflakes!!!!

In math we are using pan balances and continuing to learn about heavier and lighter.  We worked with partners and we hunted around the room to find things that we thought would weigh about the same and then we tested our object in our pan balances to see if they were the same or different.  It was really hard to find things that were the same!

For an afternoon snack, Beth brought in a special treat this past Friday...POMEGRANATE! Some kids have had it before, some have not. All were pleasantly surprised for this delicious treat! Thanks Beth!

Eva and Maddie being a helpful friend to Evan making a necklace.

(MASON) JARS... for top secret project!  Lids not required. We have 20 students and currently have 8 jars. Any help is appreciated. We promise there is a reward in it for you in the end. :-)

Inside fun!

Short day, with our delay start. Confused some kids as we skipped some important things like snack and morning recess!

In Language Arts the second group came up stairs and had the pleasure of seeing our Royal Reader. Monday our Royal Reader will be back to visit the first group.  So I don't spoil it for others, I will wait to reveal the Royal Reader til Monday. The activity to go with it, was awesome.  I promise it will be worth the wait!  (Group 2, don't tell your classmates! They will love to be surprised.)

Due to the extremely cold outside temps, we had a lot of indoor recess!

Earl-Made a misile.

 Kamden - "I made a motorcyle!"
Max, reading to his 'wolf pup'. aka: Ethan

Some of us really enjoy going to the office. Mazie was finishing her deadline on coloring pages for the week. Fiona and Eli, were busy putting in their quota on Lexia.

McCartney and Maddie and Eva, were spys, solving problems.
Maddie "I'm queen of the penguins of the iceberg."
McCartney "We found clues. Look! I found gloves."

Ryder & Ryan "We are building a airplane station."
Willis "Watch how softly I can land this plane."

Jolly ol' Evan, exploring the loft!

"Playing castle"
Grady - "You're so excited to see your dad."
West - "I missed you daddy."
Bodhi - "Hi honey."
Grady - "Come over here you minions!"

In Math we worked on writing our numerals by playing the game called Number Beep.  Then we rolled dice and drew circles.  If you rolled a 3 then you drew 3 circles then Beth showed us the magic number and we had to change our amount of circles to match the magic number.  For example if the magic number was 7 then you had to draw 4 more to make it match.  Then we learned about heavier and lighter and compared things around the classroom to see which object were heavier and which object were lighter.  We decided that if we had to go for a mile hike we would rather carry 4 candy canes in our backpack instead of 4 pieces of firewood because they are lighter and they would make a good snack along the way!
