Royal Reader and Four Winds Friday!

Math we were learning about sorting shapes by size, colors and by their attributes (triangle, square, etc.) We also practiced our positional words like behind, in front, below, etc. We also read the book The Silly Story of Goldie Locks and the Three Squares by, Grace Maccarone.

Royal Reader Lloyd, our school janitor, came to class to read Katy and the Big Snow  by Virginia Lee Burton. All the kids made connections to the story. Some connections were recognizing that Lloyd and Katy are helpers.

After the story, the kids had a chance to draw a picture and write a sentence about a connection they had the book. Then had a chance to share their picture in the Royal Chair!

We also had Four Winds today with Ellen and Kathleen. We learned about bird migration. We learned that many birds head south for the winter because there is not enough food for the birds. We did a few activities where we had to decide if we were a bird that stayed or a bird that went south. We also were in the gym and there were obstacles and there were birds. The obstacles were things like buildings, power lines, polluted water, predators. And the rest of us were birds trying not to get caught in the obstacles. We also pretended to be geese flying south in "V" formation.

We followed up these activities with the book Those Darn Squirrels by Adam Rubin.

We are running very low on snacks for kids who forget or kids who are just REALLY hungry and need more. If you can, are willing, please feel free to send in snacks we can share with the class. Pretzels, Goldfish, Granola Bars, box of cereal of some healthy kind, etc. Thank you in advance for your snack support.
