Mail Call!

Morning Meeting....
Review of the chart. Today is the last day of January. What comes next? Zoe "February!"
Activity on the chart today was to write a letter that is not a vowel.
We played a new matching game today with sight words. We had to match what word we were given with a partner who had the same word.

Morning Activities....

Wiki Sticks!

Magnet building.

Taber using sticker letters to make words.

Coloring is always a favorite in this class.

Happy Birthday Lenora!

Clear the halls, secure the building...
We did have a practice drill today. In case your child comes home to talk about it, we did turn out the lights, hide in a corner and under a desk, and waited for the "all clear" notice to resume class.

Morning Meeting....
How many days have we been in school? We counted our ten frame chart and we are up to 88.  We read the chart, which is so cool to see the kids do. Today we recognized that we didn't all read the chart when we came to school, but now we can READ!!! Today's activity was to count how many chairs are in the room.  The correct answer is 34.

What's the news?
Nora "Tobin wrapped one of my presents."
Taber "My dad said I can get a new RC car."
Lenora "After breakfast my Noni said I could unwrap some presents.
Ashlyn "I can go to Lenora's birthday.
Oscar "I get to do a play date with Skyler
Sailor "My dad took the Christmas tree down.
I get to go to Lenora's birthday party
Stella "I am going to Lenora's birthday party.
River "I going to be pick up  to Lenora's birthday and I am having hot lunch."
I went to a birthday the day before yesterday.
Thayer "I spent the knight at my grandma and grandpas."
Zoe "When I was feeding my guinnea pig, I saw through the cage and I was feeding him and when I was looking out of his cage, I saw a big brown bear and I hid.
Sky "Me and Oscar are having a play date. I finished my helicopter."
Willow "I get to go to Lenora's birthday party."
Ethan "I have this thing and I don't know what it does and its really cool and it's like a locker and I keep a box in there and its really big and is a Locker."

Math....
Write one more. Beth says a number out loud, ie: "5 add one more equals?"
Lenora "6!"
Beth "3 add one more equals?"
Willow "4!"
Beth "7 add one more equals ?"
Thayer "8!"
Beth "0 add one more equals?"
Oscar "1!"
And so on.....

One less...
Beth "One less than 3?" Kids write their answer on the board.
Narumi "2."
Beth "if I have 5, what is one less?"
Jack "4!"
Beth "one less than 10?"
Lenora "9!"
And so on....

Language Arts...
We have started reading groups!  The kids are so excited to be practicing reading predictable text.  Ask your child what books they have been reading! Stations include iPads, handwriting without tears and different pencil paper activities to reinforce Language Arts skills.

Writing Letters

Morning Activities...
Puzzles

Writing, coloring and stamping.

 Magnets
Number Bingo!

Language Arts....
How many letters are in the Alphabet? Many of us began counting the letters on the chart we have on the wall. We counted all together and found that there are 26 letters in the alphabet. We recognized what the vowels are and talked about the consonants!

Math....
We are going to learn about equal. What does equal mean?
Zoe "if you have 4 and you have 5, you can get rid of one and then you have 4 and 4."
Oscar "its a math word."
Beth "sometimes adding two numbers EQUALS a different number. Show me with your fingers that equal 5."
Kids "3 fingers plus 2 fingers equals 5."
Beth "how many ways can you make 6?"

Writing Corner....
"You've Got Mail!" We started working on letter writing today. It has seemed to be a "thing" the past couple weeks where kids have been giving each other notes, or making cards for family. They have been asking for envelopes, how to write words and names, drawing pictures, etc. Today we brought out our mail station, fully equipped with a mailbox, paper, envelopes and "stamps". We learned about writing "To" and "From" and writing a message in their letter. Then putting it in an envelope and write the name of the person who the letter is "To." We put a stamp on it. And we put it in the mailbox.

Mail center supplied with writing paper, envelopes, stamps and mail box.
