PARENT CONFERENCES NEXT WEEK...PLEASE SIGN UP

We are closing in on Parent/Teacher Conferences.
PLEASE contact Beth to schedule your appointment if you haven't already.

In Language Arts we are working on our second book that each of us are writing and illustrating. In another week or so, we will have kids be the "Royal Reader".  We are working on writing sentences on our own by sounding out our words. We are also working on putting details into the pictures to help tell what the written part of the story is all about. We also continue to work on our sight words and reading in small group or one on one with the teacher.

In math we are working on learning to write number sentences. We are listening to stories like "the squirrel hid three nuts in the tree and buried four nuts in the ground. How many nuts are there all together."  Kids then have to write out what the number sentence looks like on their white boards, 3+4=7.  They can also make pictures to go along with their number sentence to help them solve the problem.  We are also continuing practicing counting to 100 and writing and reading the teen numbers.

Mazie made a beautiful piece of art with pattern blocks.

We have a field trip to the Flynn Theatre to see a show about Pete the Cat!  We will be leaving school at 7:50 on March 23th.  Kids need to bring a cold lunch that day that is easy to eat picnic style and that has no nuts.  A note went home today in the kids folders with more information about this fun trip!

Welcome Back!

Welcome back! We hope you all had a wonderful, restful, fun break with your families. It was great coming back today to see everyone back at school with lots of energy and excitement to see their friends.

Today was a very exciting day, as we had the pleasure of welcoming our new classmate, Savi. Welcome Savi! We hope your first day at the Warren School Kindergarten was super fun.

Writing Wednesday.... We will be writing letters to community members in our school as well as our friends and family, if kids choose.  We are practicing writing sentences, writing the name to the recipient and who it is from. Once we have written our letter, we get an envelope to put the letter in to and put a "stamp"(sticker) on it as well. We then mail our envelope in our classroom mailbox. The next day, our letters will be delivered after recess. Each kid will have the chance to hand deliver their letter to the person they wrote to. Lots of excitement as we wrote today! Can't wait to see the faces of all those who receive a letter. It's going to be lots of fun.

More About George

Books we've read....

Good Driving, Amelia Bedelia by Herman Parish
A funny story, Watch out! Mr. Rodgers didn't know what kind of a ride he was in for with Amelia Bedelia. Only she can make a car trip this fun!

George Washington America's First President by Justin McCory Martin

A bit of history about our First President. Lots of fun facts. Kids really got into this!

We did a wonderful writing project about George Washington. Each child wrote a fact about George Washington as well as a picture that went along with what they wrote. Lots of good facts. They will be posted in the classroom for anyone who would like to check them out. Lots of hard work went into these pieces!

Sharing continues to be a hit! Thank you friends for bringing in something special to share with your classmates.

In math we counted to 100 orally today as a class.  Then we played a game called what comes next?  I say a number like 7 and the kids write what comes next.  We are even trying some harder numbers like 32 and 76!  After that I told a story about a squirrel hiding nuts.  He had 10 nuts that he keeps hiding and I keep finding some.  The kids have to figure out how many nuts are still hidden.  If he hides 10 nuts and I find 3 of them, how many are still hidden?  These are all great games that you can play with your kids at home to strengthen their math skills.

Tomorrow is "Pajama Day"! So, let your kiddos sleep in  a little longer and let them roll right out of bed and come to school rested, relaxed and ready to go. There is a whole school reading party as well from 1:00-1:45pm. We will be reading with our buddies during this time.

Thank you to those who have brought in snacks to share with our class. If anyone is interested in bringing in a snack to share with the class, we welcome them always.

We REALLY appreciate it! So do your kids.
