Morning Activities....
Baden's structure. Picture Cretid: Baden.

A few of these puzzle pieces were put out, making three letter words. One of the kids decided to dump the whole box. Thayer said they could do all of them, none were tricky for these kids. They were successfull!

Fan making.

More fan making and building of sorts.

making a castle.

 building with letters.

Fine motor skills, picking up beans with chopsticks.

Math...
One more, one less.  "What is one less than 9 and one more than 9?" "8 and 10"

Language Arts....
Be the teacher. We picked a card, one by one went to the front of the room, said the letter, the picture clue and the sound.

We then had to pick a letter and go around in the room and find an object that began with that letter.

Objects we found for the letter "Ss" that was picked is... soup, spoon, sink, sled, spinace, square, snake, shape, sedsel, stella.

Another letter picked was, "Rr." Objects kids found were...rip, red, red ring, rod, ring(the bell), rolling pin, River, red bucked, red spoons, round, ruler.

Another letter was "Hh." The kids came back with these ideas...head, hair, hiding, hood, house, heart, hard, hand, husky, hat.

Writing....
We have been working hard on our writing. Over the last couple weeks we have been writing "How To" books. Lots of great books have been writing by this group. We started reading them to the class. Here are a few kids that wanted to read today;

Bring a water bottle to school

Mother Nature is really confused! One day this week there is snow,
the next day, 80 degrees and sunny.
Well, at this stage we are ready for the sun, maybe 60s would be good?! With that said, the Sun is powerful, which means its sunburn season. If you want your child to wear sunscreen, please provide lotion for them and a note to us saying they can have sunscreen put on. Itls just like sending in medicine for your child. We need your permission. Your child is also very thursty after our fun in the sun. So please, make sure your child has a water bottle they can bring to school. Our classroom water fountain isn't great, we don't want them leaving the class to use the fountain. So a water bottle is helpful! We appreciate your support with this.

Book Corner...
Head to Toe by Eric Carle. "A lively interactive introduction to basic body parts and movements. Gorillas, elephants, camels and other animals invite young readers to clap, stomp, wriggle and bend like they do!"
While the story is read, kids began to act out what the story was about.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle.  "In the light of the moon a little egg lay on a leaf."

Math...
Working with ten's and one's. We played a game where the kids took turns challenging thier partner to figure out the number they make with Cuisenair Rods and Cubes. Can you trick your partner?

Oscar "Luca, don't look, I'm making a number."
Luca is trying not to, but one eye might be open.

Taber "Beth, I tricked Thayer, I used all of the cubes and rods. I made it 110!"

Friday Field Trip!

REMINDER...
Field trip money is due! Please send in $8.50 for your child to go to the Flynn this Friday, May 4th. Also, don't forget to send your child with a cold lunch and water bottle that day. If you have questions or are unable to pay the $8.50 let us know, we can help.

Morning Activities...

Morning Meeting....
We did our usual counting and have gotten to the 140th day. We read our chart. And went around the circle and did "What's the news?" Always great start to the day as so many kids have something they are itching to share with their classmates.

Book Corner.....
Soccer Crazy by Bruno, Colin McNaughton.  "A slightly overweight new bear in the neighborhood, finally gets a chance to play on the local soccer team. He’s only a substitute player, but on the day of the biggest game he is suddenly called in to a tie game with only a minute to go!
Soccer Crazy is a tale of overcoming adversity by having the courage to persevere.
Eric Carle books....we are reading many of the books by Eric Carle, the kids are really excited for these and enjoying that they are all by the same author. You might have one around in your house.
How I Became A Pirate by Melinda Long. "Pirates have green teeth—when they have any teeth at all. I know about pirates, because one day, when I was at the beach building a sand castle and minding my own business, a pirate ship sailed into view."

Math....
Number Beep! Listen to the numbers counted, listen for the beep. You have to write on your boards what the "beep" number is. "33, 34, 35, 36, beep! If you wrote 37, you are correct." Lots of consentration!!!

Finger flash!!! We are getting trickier. Flashing with our fingers numbers up to 20. Then in reverse kids have to show numbers that are called out like, 16. Then we went on to working with Cuisenaire rods (worth 10 cubes) and single cubes.  Understanding 10's and 1's place.

Language Arts...
Choose your own activity! There were options today to pick from. We had Fireworks Sight words. Folder time, reading on your own, or Lexia. Lots of great work happening.

Bus Evacuation Drill....
We do practice this! Today was the day. Definately an interesting conversation if you want to chat with your child about it and get their perspective on this. It's really great to watch this drill as big kids really step up to help make this smooth and safe for all of the kids.
