I'm thankful for....

In math we continue to work with shapes. Today, we made our own....

..... human shapes! Check out these amazing rectangles.

We were also building pictures with shapes.

We continue to make connections with stories we read in class. Today we read Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse, by Kevin Henkes.  We also worked on writing our letters Xx and Yy. Not easy letters to write, but practice makes perfect.

We read The First Thanksgiving by, Linda Hayward. This is a true story about the Pilgrims settling the land and how they met Indians, become friends and come together for a feast. There are wonderful drawings that the kids can really relate to, making this book a very informative look into how Thanksgiving came to be.

Then, we colored a picture and wrote something we were thankful for.

The book fair is going on at school in the Library until November 21st. On Friday Kindergarten will go for a visit to the book fair to buy books. But if you are interested you can come during the day to look around as well.

Loosing teeth

Language Arts: We read the book Tabitha's Terribly Tough Tooth by, Charlotte Middleton. We first worked on making connections(predictions) to the title and picture of the book. After making connections, we read the book and talked about what it reminds us of.  Here are a few thoughts,

Maddie: "This reminds me of once I took a bite of a bagel and then saw it on the napkin."

Azza: "This reminds me of when I took a bite of an apple and then my tooth was wiggling."

Eva: "This reminds me of when my sister kicked out Gwenny's tooth playing soccer."

Ryder: "This reminds me of when my dog lost its tooth."

Today in math we began learning about rectangles. We learned how a square is in the rectangle family. We also practiced ordering the numbers 0-20.

More books we read today.....kids are really getting into discuss teeth as many have loose ones, or have lost teeth already. It's a pretty big deal to loose our teeth. But as we learned, everyone is different and we loose teeth at different times than our friends sometimes.

Free choice time activities.....

Dahlia and Ryder comparing their snack and counting their snack.

Fiona, Eli and Maddie just can not get enough Lexia!

Max and Ethan using light blocks as their x-ray vision goggles.

Mazie and Molly practice writing their numbers.

Azza and Ryan playing house.
Ryan: "Pretend I made my own magic drink."
Azza: "Now I'm going to pour liquid."
Ryan: "Delicious. Now Ive gotta go to my drawing spot. Pretend tis is what our rocket looks like."
Azza: "Im making something."

Maddie is excited to ski, she's working on her dry land training.

Happy birthday Earl!

A big SHOUT OUT to EARL....  HAPPY  6th BIRTHDAY!!!!

Today in math we worked on shapes using sticks. Understanding where corners and side are in our shapes and what makes a shape.  If the animals can get out of the shape then it is not a shape!  We concentrated on triangles today.  We made triangles with sticks, with our bodies and we drew them as well.

In Language Arts we continue to make connections with books. Perhaps we know something about the book just by looking at its cover, background knowledge. Or maybe it "reminds us of something." When we are reminded of something it is a way we are making connections to the book.  We read Big Birthday, by Kate Hosford. "Annabelle is determined to have a birthday that stands out from the rest. But wearing spacesuits and partying where there is no atmosphere create some challenges that Annabelle didn't expect. Will her out-of-this-world birthday still be a blast?"
We also began learning new letters Xx and Yy. Only two more letters to learn and we will have gotten through the entire alphabet!

Silent reading.... lots of quiet readers in this class.

FREE CHOICE........

Ryder built a castle as tall as he is.

Dahlia flying her hand made helicopter from the loft.

Royal Reader

We had our first Royal Reader today! Heidi Greene brought in one of her favorite books to share with us, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by, Bill Martin Jr.  It's great to have Heidi not only as a very important part of our school, but a great community member as well.
THANK YOU HEIDI!!!!!

Then we did a Chicka Chicka Boom Boom coloring project. See our awesome coloring and cutting skills.

In math we have been learning about shapes. Noticing that a clock is a circle shape, a flag is the shape of a rectangle, a stop sign is the shape of a hexagon and so on. We continue to order numerals in different ways. Below is a project showing how we cut out squares with dots on them, and ordering the dots 1-10.

We read I'm A Turkey by Jim Arnosky. A fun factual look into the life a Tom turkey and his flock who are always on the look out for hungry animals.
