It's Ski day!!!

Snacks....
If you are able and can bring in some snacks to share with these growing kiddos, we would greatly appreciate it. (Goldfish, apples, clementines, graham crackers, granola bars, pretzels, cheerios, etc.)

Morning Activities....

Math....
Shapes, Shapes, Shapes. We just can't get enough. As usual we get our shape piece and have to match with a partner. We "Whispered' how many sides and what's the name of your shape?

Find something bigger than the frog; bean bag chair, pillow, block, teapot, chair, etc.
Find something smaller than the frog; cow, cube, sticks, piece of chalk, lincoln log, train, eraser, block, etc.

Dice match up! With partners we take turns rolling two dice and then the one who doesn't roll has to match with their fingers what was rolled. Then take turns.

Roll the dice. Write your number then draw a picture of three of the same shape. Then draw three more of a different shape.

Mystery Shapes

Reminder.....Kids who are early should not come into class. Your child can sit out front at the couch until 7:30. Often Beth is in class, but she is still setting up the classroom for the day or taking advantage of some planning time.  Please be respectful of our time and know classroom doors do not open until 7:30. We appreciate your understanding.

Morning Activities...
Skyler "Connie, you better get your iPad ready to take pictures of our clay people."

Morning Meeting...
Counting the number of days we have been in school and reading our morning chart. We counted to 79 today. We read our morning chart and recognized the number of words in a sentences and what comes at the end of a sentence. It's been a while but we did read our Apples and Banana's song. It's a funny song for sure, lots of giggling and laughter, but  first we reviewed all the words we know! We know; to, I, and.
We also did a favorite greeting that we haven't done in a while, the Robot Greeting. Kids use there own funny robot voice. And make funny sounds that might seem like a robot and say good morning to their neighbor.

Math....
Numbers, numbers, numbers! We continue to work on recognizing numbers. Today we had to write the hidden number that was covered up on the board. The white board was full of numbers 1-20. Beth would go along and cover up a number, the kids had to figure out and write which number was hidden.

Mystery Shape Game...Everyone has some shapes of various sizes and colors. "You are looking for a shape with three sides and must be blue." (Blue triangles)

"This next mystery shape has 4 sides and it is blue." (square, rectangle, parallellagram)

Please check for a note that went home in the kids folders today.  Thanks!

Capacity

Morning Activities...

Morning Meeting....
Reading the chart and recognizing sentences. How many words in a sentence? Who knows what is at the end of a sentence? (We recognized periods and a question mark.) Today's activity was to write a lower case letter.  We played a roll the ball greeting. We roll the ball across the way to a friend and say good morning to that friend. Using eye contact and being friendly when you see people are great social skills.

Books we read....

Math....
Counting 0-20, 20-0, by 10's. Kids have to chance to volunteer standing in front of the class and counting on their own. Counting are great activities to do with your child any time, and it takes just a couple minutes. Feel free to ask your child to count when you're in the car, going for a walk, at dinner time, etc. We also reviewed measuring and how some things are about the same. Beth demonstrated with two clay balls, that one stayed the ball and one was flat or torn apart and it turns out they are still the same! Then she turned one ball of clay into a snake and one stayed the ball.
Jack "they are the same amount of clay. Just in a different shape."
Capacity..... Yes we are teaching the kids about "Capacity." Using measuring cups we are learning about how much capacity a cup has.

Mad Libs!
Baden came into class today asking about MadLibs. So we started talking about nouns, verbs and adjectives. So fun to do these activities and the kids LOVE it! Here are some words that were used...
shirt, mushy, shoe, slimy, Nose, dance, hop, finger, food, leg, clown, green, dog, furry.

My Pet
For my birthday my parents bought me a pet SHIRT. He is so cute that I named him MUSHY. He has a really long SHOE and I love to pet his GOLD skin. I bought him a SLIMY collar that he wears around his NOSE. And I'm teaching him to dance and to come when I HOP. Every time he does a trick, I say "Good FINGER!" and feed him a FOOD. Next , I'm going to teach him to catch a Frisbee in his LEG. Every night, he sleeps on a CLOWN right next to my GREEN bed. And in the morning, he rubs his DOG on me to wake me up. What a FURRY pet!
