Read aloud books....
Being Selfish by Joy Wilt Berry
This book is to teach children the importance and benefits of unselfishness. In addition, it provides practical ways for children to share their things.

Tacky the Penguin by Helen Lester
Tacky's an odd bird, or Penguin rather, who likes to do splashy cannonballs and greet his companions with a loud “What's happening?” In fact, he's something of an eccentric, which his fellow penguins find somewhat bothersome until his odd behavior saves the day!

Three Cheers for Tacky by Helen Lester
Tacky's back and ready to help his team win the shiny first-place bow ties in the Penguin Cheering Contest. He is still clumsy and muddled, but just as he did in TACKY THE PENGUIN, he manages to win everyone's affection in the end and thing's turn out fine.

Morning Meeting...
Well, we did the usual. Read the chart, counted to 120 by 1s and by 10s. We did a "Marble Roll" greeting. And we did a sight word match! We couldn't read on the first day of Kindergarten, now we are reading sight words and books, WE ARE AWESOME!

Colored Egg greeting! Eggs are in the middle of the floor. In each egg is a student's name. Each of us gets a turn to pick an egg and shake hands and say "good morning" to the person whose name was in the egg.

Math...
Subtraction is the name of the game these days. Can you believe it?! Kindergarten doing subtraction? We are making number sentences. With unifix cubes, Beth shows us cubes. Then she takes one away. How many are left? We each are doing this on our own on white boards.

Telling stories to create the number sentence. We drew a "pond" on our white boards. There were otters, frogs and moose!  An example of one story was "6 Moose came to the edge of the pond. Today was Moose Party day. On this day, wild things happen. On Moose Party day all the moose went in the pond. How many moose were left? Zero!"   6-6=0
There are many stories told to practice writing math sentences.
Science....
We discussed the stomach today. Talked about how the stomach takes in food and fuels our brains, our body. Provides nourishment for our bodies to grow and heal. Then we got to fill a stomach and see what happens when we fill our stomach with food. We talked about the good foods and the bad foods as well.
Thayer feeding the stomach with good foods like radishes, blueberries, apple, and so much more.
We all had a chance to put some food into the stomach and then the stomach was available for kids to play with during free choice.
