Using Force

Language Arts: We continue to work on our sounds. We are also really working on how to write CVC (consonant, vowel, consonant)words. We have tapped them out with our fingers and we use white boards as well. We watched a short, three minute video of Don't Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late by Mo Willems. We made connections to the other books we have read by Mo Willems such as, in this Pigeon story Knuffle Bunny is in it. In the Knuffle Bunny there is a picture with the Pigeon in the story. So, we notice that Mo Willems connects his books together through his characters. We also are close to finishing up our own Pigeon stories. Soon we will be sharing them as a class, maybe being our own group of Royal Readers!

Thank you Eli, Eva and Willis for going to the front of the class to share with your friends.

Eli shared about his cat. He described his cat to us.

Eva shared a very small music box with us.
Beautiful sounds came out as she cranked the handle.

Willis shared about his dog cage and how he uses it as a kitty jail.

Math
In math today we rolled three dice and added them up.  We are learning to write math sentences.  We also drew a made up animal listening to Beth for directions about the size and shape of our animals.  The animals body had to be 5 cubes long and his legs had to be as long as our thumbs!  They looked funny is the end!

Using force.....using pushes and pulls to move objects or to get them to change directions. How much force is needed to push a single book across the floor? How much force is used to push a stack of books across the floor?

How much force is needed to push an empty box across the floor? How much more force would it take to move a box that was filled with blocks?
What happens when you push your box up the ramp? What happens when you use more blocks or less blocks?"
Ryan: "it goes down because of gravity."
Maddie: "It went slower with more blocks in the box."
Earl: "I'm pushing and pulling my box with blocks. It's easier to push it."
Molly:"It's definately easier to push the box."
Azza: "there are too many blocks! It's to heavy to move."
Ethan: "I took out some blocks and it went by itself."
West: "I like pushing it up the ramp better."
Max: "Hey, we all have to push, it's too heavy for one person."
