School days at Sugarbush

Thank you Sugarbush for providing us a temporary home.

We are happily working away in our new digs!

Taking a tour of the class to familiarize where all of our classroom things are.

The past couple days we have been doing our routine activities when we come in each morning. Kids have been coming in and choosing activities that are out on tables as well as doing the chart activity.

Nora working with Play-Dough. Stella and Willow completed the Bug Puzzle!

"What kind of bug are you going to draw Thayer?"

Nora, Narumi, Sedsel and Zoe are beading. Thayer, River, Ashlyn, Sailor and Principal Beth are making Playdough spiral mountains and other creations.

MORNING MEETING.....
Each morning we read the chart together that we filled out when we come in. Then we do a "morning greeting." Yesterday we played a matching game with socks. Each kid received a sock and then had to find it's match. When they found their match, they each said "good morning" to each other. This activity also tied into our Math of comparing same and different.

LANGUAGE ARTS....

This week we started working on the letter "Tt". We learned its name, key word/picture, and the sound the letter makes.

We also started working in our handwriting books. Today kids were practicing how to hold their pencil and making different pencil strokes.

MATH....
We have started to work on what is the same but can be different. We did an activity comparing what they saw about animals on a worksheet.

We have also been doing finger flashes to 5.  Beth flashes fingers to the group and they yell out what they see. Another time, Beth has flashed out fingers and the kids make caterpillars on white boards. So if Beth flashed 4 fingers, the kids would make a caterpillar with 4 sections.

FREE CHOICE....

Nora made a bag for her mom.

We are doing our first Science unit on bugs. We had started out with some beautiful monarch caterpillars and while we were out of school last week all of them hatched but one, which we are patiently waiting for it to hatch from its chrysalis.

Other critters we have found along the way...
Lunar Moth caterpillar

 Fuzzy, spikey caterpillar

 Narumi found a Argiope spider.

And then many helped to make a spider habitat.

REMINDER..... FIELD TRIP
We are taking a field trip to the Montshire Museum on Friday. We will be leaving school about 8:30 and returning by end of school to catch the afternoon buses.  A cold lunch and $6.00 per child is required. We are looking for chaperones. If interested, please let us know.

SNACK....
If you are able and can send in a snack that we can share with the kids who forget snack, we greatly appreciate it. Bag of pretzels, crackers, granola bars, goldfish, etc.
