Magic Beanstalks

It's Fun Friday!

We learned about the number zero. We practiced writing the number zero.  We are practicing "Subitizing" which is being able to recognize amounts of things when they change positions. For example if you hold up in one hand 5 fingers and your child recognizes it is 5. Then hold up two fingers in one hand and 3 in the other hand, that is also 5. We are also doing sunrise and sunset counting. Counting up to 10 and then backwards to zero. We have also been practicing recognizing the numerals and knowing the names up to 5.

Recess!!!!!!
Molly, Eli and Mazie relaxing by the tree.

Spider web (space net) fun!

Magic Beanstalks
It was our second day of science. Today we continued with our Engineering skills. Engineers have to think about the function of how things work and what its purpose is. We read the story Jack and the Beanstalk. Then the kids were asked about the function of the beanstalk. How was the beanstalk used? "To climb it" said Eli.  We then got out our special scientist notebooks and drew a picture of the beanstalk. Lastly, we got to build our own beanstalk. Everyone was given 10 pipe cleaners to create their beanstalk and make it as tall as they could without it falling over.

 Jack and the Beanstalk

Hard at work coming up with ideas on how to get their beanstalk to stand up.

Serious Engineers. Maddie has wild scientist glasses on. Helped her think like an engineer.

Eli working very hard. Many attempts (just like an Engineer) to create his beanstalk.

 More Engineers hard at work.
