Pushes and Pulls

Morning Meeting....
We did our routine counting of days we have been in school. We read our morning chart. Talked briefly about our field trip last Friday of How I Became A Pirate.  It was a great performance that we enjoyed very much. Kids expressed some of thier favorite parts.
We went around the room and did our "What's the news?" Kids always have lots to share on a Monday. We also did our "King and Queen, Prince or Princess" greeting. You choose what you would like to be and ou say good morning and bow, curtsy, kneel, etc.

Book Corner....
More Eric Carle books are being read.  Thank you Eric Carle for writing so many great books for kids.

Sheep On A Ship by Nancy E. Shaw. "These rhyming misadventures of a group of zany sheep on a pirate ship."  This was a great tie into our Language Arts lesson about "Sh".

Math...
Using unifix cubes, we played a game called "SNAP!"

Writing....
We continue to share our "How To" books. Great job to all who have shared their stories and worked so hard to get them done. Also, nice job standing in front of your classmates to share your book and read your book out loud.

Language Arts....
Learning about the "Sh" sound.

Science....
Everyday Pushes and Pulls.  We began an new unit today by discussing the vocabulary of this unit. pull, push and force. A force is when you do something to make an object move. It can be a hard force or a light force. We can open a door. Make a marker move. Pull is wehn you make it come toward you. A push is when you move something away from you. We will explore the physical science of force.

Beth read us a book called Newton and Me. "While at play with his dog, Newton, a young boy discovers the laws of force and motion in his everyday activities."

As a whole class we went around the school and found a few "pushes and pulls" along with a couple friends in action.
