Warm Clothes

Happy Birthday Sierra! Thank you for our yummy fruit stick treat.

Your kids are cold...that's what they tell us when we are outside for recess. Please, please, please, send your child in to school with warm clothes; hats, mittens/gloves, warm boots, jackets, etc. Mother Nature is changing her tune and Old Man Winter is on his way. BRR!!!

Morning Activities....

Morning Meeting......
How many kids are in our class?  This was the question on the chart today. This was a stumper for some. Kids came up with different ways to count to decide how many kids are in our class. "Count chairs." "Count cubbies." "Count sit spots." Great ideas! We have 22 kids in our class.
Morning Greeting....
Toe to toe! Everyone walks around the meeting circle and we touch a friend "toe to toe." And we greet each other by saying "Good Morning ________!" There are many ways we walk around and greet each other. We also did elbow to elbow, thumb to thumb, etc.  Its a really great way for kids to learn some good social skills; eye contact, greeting each other with the time of day, greeting in a kind way.

Book Corner......
Lost At Sea  by Marcus Pfister. "Tug mimics everything Rainbow Fish does in The Copycat Fish and then gets separated from the class on a field trip in Lost at Sea. Angel challenges Puffer's exaggerated stories in A Fishy Story; and no one can agree on what makes something a treasure in Hidden Treasures."

I like Pumpkins by "I Like Pumpkins is an illustrated book for young children written and illustrated by children's book author Jerry Smath in which a young girl vividly describes her fondness for pumpkins at Halloween. The book is written in rhyming text and includes five pages of pumpkin-related games and puzzles."

Patty's Pumpkin Patch by Terry Sloat. "Patty's pumpkin patch is a surprisingly busy place all year long. There's plowing and planting in the spring, weeding (and lots of growing!) in the summer, and much more than just picking pumpkins in the fall."

Math.....
In math we have continued to work on different combinations to 5.  Like 3 red dots and 2 blue dots make 5 dots total.  We have also been learning a really tricky pattern on our class calendar.  There is a color pattern, a number pattern and a direction pattern!  Wow!

Language Arts....
We learned a new letter today, letter Cc. We reviewed a bag of objects today as well. Objects that start with letter Cc are; crown, clothes pin, cat, clock, car, crayon, candle, cards, camera, comb, cap, cork, compass.  Then we went on a letter hunt.  We had to find all of the letter "C's" on a page full of letters.
We have learned the letters M, B, F, T, N, U, I, C

Practicing writing our letter C.

Sharing....
Evelyn "This is my grabby monkey that my dad gave me from a trip."
Lucy "I like it."
Beth "How does it work?"
Evelyn showed us.

Writing....
Our writers are working hard. We are practicing writing words. We have started by making a picture that tells a story and then write about it. At this stage we are writing the letters that identify things in our story. So if one of the kids drew a picture of a house, sun, and people, they would write the first letter of objects to identify their picture story. We are writing every week and are working up to sounding out more of the letters in each word.
